Bridging History and Nature along the Tranquil Clarence River
The regional city of Grafton is located inland on the Clarence River, between Ballina and Coffs Harbour.
Grafton was an important river port during its early years of settlement and the surrounding river flats provided rich land for farming and dairying.
The main commercial centre is built around Prince Street and spills into adjoining streets. The Clarence River with its parks and jetties is never far away, surrounding the city centre on three sides.
The Grafton Bridge links the city centre with South Grafton and surrounding suburbs via a curious structure with a roadway on top and railway line underneath.
To the west of Grafton are large expanses of National Park within scenic and rugged mountain ranges.
