Welcome to Wollongong
Wollongong is the third largest city in New South Wales, located around an hour's drive south of Sydney and wedged between the coast and the Illawarra Escapment.
Wollongong has developed from what was primarily an industrialised and iron and steel producing city into one of the area's top tourist and holiday destinations. With extensive shopping facilities, a beautiful harbour, sandy beaches and spectacular coastal and mountain scenery, it has become a great location within itself.
Heading north from the city along the coast, this section of Grand Pacific Drive passes through several small coastal communities and becomes an elevated roadway above the rocky foreshore between Clifton and Coalcliff. Further north, the coastal town of Stanwell Park is perched above the surf beach and a is popular launching place for hang gliders.
