Kempsey is a major town in the Macleay Valley, located between Nambucca Heads and Port Macquarie.

The town's commercial centre is surrounded on three sides by a loop in the Macleay River with a fantastic view over the entire town and along the river available from the lookout at Rudder Park, located adjacent to the Pacific Highway.
